April Fool’s Day.
The only fooling going on that day, was the traffic.

Besides accidents trying to keep all parties from getting to Sedona,
this day was a gorgeous one.

The sun was shining.
The engagement couple was smiling.
There is nothing better :]

Thank you to Eunice of Eunice Brownlee Photography for letting me join her
in second shooting.

cheers, Meg

Love them! I am so glad that you came out to play in the desert with me. :) Looking forward to doing it again! xoxox

the bella, Val | RIP

Sometimes grief, and sadness, will hit you like a ton of bricks.
Today’s lesson is that it will come out nowhere.

Social Media can be amazing. It allows you to keep up with people you normally wouldn’t hear from.
I never though today that what I would learn would break my heart.
It was discovered, by wall posts, that my good friend Val was in a car accident and passed away 2 days ago.

I”m shocked. Stunned. In disbelief.
This woman was so full of life and love, it’s hard to believe that I’ll never see her again.

Before I get into the amazing-ness that was this human being,
here’s a photo of the two of us.

I wish I could put into words how she lit up a room.
She was my hair stylist in Washington, and so much more.
The minute she gave you a hug, you felt like the most important person alive.
Not to be vain or physical, but she was one of the most beautiful people that I have met.
I was often so jealous of the effortless way she put herself together.

There’s disbelief because she wanted so much in life, and I’ll never get to see her do much of it.
The last conversation we had was before she’d gone to Europe.
She was getting all excited and chatting away about how she couldn’t just cut hair anymore,
she wanted to make a difference and better the world.
So she was going back to school, went on her Europe trip, and like a fairytale, fell in love.
Before I knew it, she’d gotten married. This was a crazy because here was a girl that had spoken
about how men had hurt her, she never thought she’d find “The One”, and he found her!

Speaking of, she was one of the first people that I spoke to about my husband.
She was one of the first people that I told that I was pretty sure he was the one I was going to marry.
When the two finally met, she treated him like he had already been her friend forever.
She told me that she was so sublimely happy for me, and I knew she really was, and that he was a keeper.

I remember the tradition of taking her a gift of chocolate every time you got your hair done.
I will always remember how red lipstick was pretty much made for her.
Most of all, I can hear her voice, as she hugs me goodbye and gives me a kiss on both cheeks, “I love you bella.”
Even when you knew she was so special, she still strove to make you feel like the most important person.

No, Val, you are the BELLA.
One day we will see each other on the other side, and I can’t wait for another hug.

Meg – You are so eloquent. This is exactly what I wanted to say but couldn’t find the words.

And how appropriate that the last bottle of wine Val and I shared was called “Bella”

Funny how people from opposite sides of the country can be afffected by the same thing…and in my case by someone I never even met. Val was my daughter’s hairstylit, and I think she pretty much felt the same way you did about Val. I am so sorry for the loss of your friend, and sorry that the world has lost such a bright and lovely spirit. We need all of those that we can get!

“Love That Shot” Submission | phoenix photographer

You know what’s extremely humbling as a photographer?
Knowing that, NO, my photos are not the best out there.
Sure, I love them and am extremely proud, but I enjoy looking at others’ creativity. It’s beyond inspiring.

So from time to time I’ll enter contests and submissions, because I love to look at the other entries!
Love That Shot is an online magazine geared to just be AMAZING.
They’ve got tips and tricks, and just a passion for what they do.

This particular contest is for Black & White shots.

This is, hands down, one of the best photos I think I have ever taken.
Modest or not, I could literally look at it for hours.
Whenever someone asks for a portfolio, or I need to do something for advertising,
this is one of the first ones I go to.

It was taken on the pier at Newport Beach, CA 3 years ago.

cheers, Meg

Love this! The tones are fab. Also, love the nostalgic feel here. I feel like I’m back in time standing on the pier with my grandfather enjoying the catch-of-the-day, the weather and his wonderful stories of days-gone-by.
