{say hello to Titus! | ahwatukee birth photographer}

Seeing as how this little whippersnapper is now FIVE MONTHS OLD (what? how did that happen?!),
it might be time for me to tell his birth story from my perspective.

It was a dark and stormy night…
Okay, not really. But it was June in Phoenix and very warm.

The upcoming week was Phoenix Comicon and #mrluckyshot and I were wondering if our nephew was going
to make his big debut during the convention.

Sunday morning, at around 4:29 AM my phone rang and sat up in bed like a bolt of lightning.
I knew without even looking at my phone who was on the other line.
“Baby’s coming, you better get over here.”

And so began my long trek to the birth site.
LOL, I kid! Our best friends live right next door.

After debating over what shirt to put on (as my husband rolls his eyes, because I told him
I had no idea if I was going to be taking a photo with that baby), I strolled over.

I walked into complete quiet. Bronson (older brother) was still asleep and Brian (dad) was getting the birth pool ready.
Alicia was slowly walking around with a look of concentration that I hadn’t seen on her face before.

She told me that she could feel the baby coming quickly, and I started to lose my breath a little. It was just me and Brian!
Her midwife Pam hadn’t even showed up yet.
Though, thinking back, A had birthed a baby before and I think she could handle herself should something happen.

Anywho, Pam showed up less than 10 minutes after me.

After a snafu with the tub…A could finally get in. Her labor was coming on strong,
but Pam (the kickbutt midwife that she is), was able to remind her that she was in charge, to take deep breaths,
and enjoy her labor.

Posters A made to inspire her during birth.

This was my first birth photographing, so I can safely say that I didn’t have an inkling what I was doing.
Of course, I talked to some fellow togs beforehand to find out settings, but until you actually get thrown into that moment,
you really have no idea what you’re in for.

I was up and down, climbing all over couch cushions, etc. I tried to stay out of the midwives’ way mostly.
I’m going to spare everyone (and A’s dignity) by not including the actual birth photos.

What I can say about this next photo is that it makes me tear up every time I look it. Just the pure facial expression of happiness and perfection <3
By this point I’m amazing by my two friends, and there are tears streaming down my face.

Oh, hello baby! You’re finally here!
And you’re….a BOY!!!

Now, that was a surprise for everyone. I had bet girl all the way (I even lost chocolate to the german exchange student), A even thought it was maybe a girl.

He was (and still is) perfection. Lovin’ all that baby dust.

Mom and Dad stayed in the tub to enjoy the little bundle while Pam and her assistant took care of the cord and placenta.

Eventually we all moved into the bedroom for some recoup. I got to sneak a peek at Brian staring quite adoringly at his new son.

Later on when I was taking a break in the living room B came to get me and said A wanted to talk to me.
I walked in and laid next to her.
“Meg, say hello to Titus Xavier.”
It’s just a surreal feeling to know that you’re the one of the first people to meet someone like that.

A and T already attached at that hip (I mean, chest)
And they pretty much haven’t stopped. He’s definitely a mama’s boy!

Bronson somehow slept through the whole thing. Eventually he woke up and came in to meet his new brother.
Pretty tentative, curious, and confused. It must be weird to see Mama’s belly become a new human!

Look at that oxytocin kickin’ in <3

Now this is how awesome my bff is…
First off, Bronson brings her a granola bar and some gatorade type juice, to help get her electrolytes up.
But what does she want?

baby + bacon = postpartum secret to success

Hello there mister. This is your Auntie Meg with her camera in your face (which you’ll soooo get used to).
Time for some vitals!

All in all, an experience I will NEVER forget.
Titus, expect some of these photos to be used for blackmail when you’re a teenager and on my last nerve;)
